Baritone (Umang Singh, "we") measures acoustic properties of your speaking voice and gives you a training programme. This policy explains exactly what we collect, what we do not, and why.

The short version

What we collect

Voice recordings — processed, then deleted

When you record the passage, your phone sends us two audio files: the passage and about three seconds of room tone. We measure them and delete both before the request finishes. They are never written to a database, never backed up, and never sent anywhere else.

We are not identifying you by voice. We measure physical properties of a sound — pitch, steadiness, clarity, resonance — the way a tape measure reads a length. We do not build a voiceprint, we do not attempt to recognise you from a recording, and we cannot match one person's recording to another's.

Measurements — kept

We keep the numbers extracted from each recording, which is what makes a progress graph possible. For each scan:

We store Example
A random scan idscn_a41f09c2
Your random device idu_m8x2p91k
When it was recorded2026-08-24T09:07:00Z
Which norms you asked to be compared againstmale / female
Which direction you are training towarddeeper / brighter
Which microphone you usedbuiltin / wired / bluetooth
The measurement vectormedian pitch in Hz, steadiness, clarity, resonance and pace figures

What we never receive

Your quiz answers — your age band, what you use your voice for, your habits, your self-rating, which voice you are aiming for — never leave your phone. They personalise what the app says to you, locally. Only your comparison group, your goal and your microphone type are attached to a recording.

Your streak, XP and completed days are also stored only on your phone.

Purchases

If you subscribe, Apple processes the payment. We never see your card, your Apple ID, or your billing address. Our payments provider (RevenueCat) tells us that a purchase, renewal, cancellation or refund happened, tied to the same random device id — so we can unlock the app and understand how many people are refunding.

Analytics

We record which screens you reach and which steps you complete — for example that a score card was shown, or that a drill was finished — tied to the same random device id. We use this to find where the app is confusing. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not use advertising identifiers.

Who else touches your data

Who What they get Why
Our server (Hetzner Online GmbH, Falkenstein, Germany)Audio, momentarily; then the measurementsTo score your voice
Anthropic (Claude)The numbers only, as textTo write the short explanation on your card
RevenueCatYour random device id, purchase eventsSubscriptions
ApplePayment details, directly from youPayment processing
MixpanelYour random device id, app eventsProduct analytics

The service that writes your card's explanation receives numbers as text and never receives audio. It is given your pitch and your sub-scores; it is not given anything you said, because we do not send it the recording.

How long we keep things

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or object to processing of your data (for example under the UK/EU GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA in California, or India's DPDP Act). Email support@trybaritone.com and we will action it.

Children

Baritone is not directed at children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app, email support@trybaritone.com and we will delete the associated records.

Baritone is rated 18+ on the App Store and the onboarding offers no under-18 age band. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

This is deliberate rather than incidental. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act anyone under 18 is a child, which requires verifiable parental consent and bars behavioural monitoring — and this app records voice and measures product usage. Serving minors properly is a different product, not a wider funnel.

This is not a medical service

Baritone is a training and self-improvement app. It does not diagnose, treat, or assess any medical or voice condition, and nothing it shows you is a clinical finding. If your voice is persistently hoarse, tires quickly, or hurts to use, see an ENT or a speech-language pathologist.

Changes

If we change what we collect we will update this page and the "last updated" date, and say so in the app.
